What are “First Serves”?
For most people, volunteering to serve at church is accompanied by the fear that they’ll be signing their lives away! Maybe you’ve had bad experiences in the past and fear getting roped in to more than you bargain for. Perhaps you’re unsure what expectations exist if you say “yes” to serving. Maybe you simply want to try something out before you “sign on the dotted line!”
First Serve is a way to remove the barriers to serving in the church by helping you discover more about your gifts, interests and skills as you serve. First Serve encourages you to learn by doing, believing that you can more effectively identify your deep-seated serving preferences through trial-and-error – worry and guilt-free! You are encouraged to “try on” various experiences until you find an area of ministry where you feel welcomed, equipped and energized to serve.
Who is First Serve for?
1. First-time volunteers. If you want to try your hand at serving for the first time, engaging in a low-risk, no-obligation area of service, then First Serve is an excellent step.
2. People who want to migrate to a new serving opportunity. If you have been serving in the same capacity for a while, maybe you’re feeling it might be time for a change. Maybe you feel like you’re in a poor fit in your ministry position and wonder what else you might do. Perhaps your gifts or skills would be more useful in a new or different serving opportunity. Maybe you are feeling passionate about a different area of the church. First Serve invites you to explore fresh areas of service within Quarry Ridge, which should in turn encourage and energize you to stay healthy over time.
