What is a “biblically-functioning community?” Simply put – we want to be a church that functions according to what we see in scripture.
For example:
In Matthew 22:36-39, Jesus explains God’s “Great Commandment” as loving God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength – with every fiber of our being. He then goes on to say that loving our neighbors is equally important.
Jesus tells us in his “Great Commission” (found in Matthew 28:18-20) to share the news of God’s plan with the world and help people grow as Christ-followers.
Jesus stresses our need to love others – giving us his “New Commandment” to love one another as he loved us. He tells us that the world will know we belong to him by how we show love. (John 13:34-35)
We see a model of the biblically-functioning church in Acts 2:42-47. We’re working to emulate that lifestyle today, being led by the Holy Spirit, and using the gifts he has given us to accomplish the work of living as a biblical community (1 Corinthians 12:1-11).
These are some of the chief examples of what it means to be a “biblically-functioning community.” Imagine a church that took that call to heart.
